Information on Poetry Out Loud made available to High School English Language Arts and Theatre Arts teachers throughout Virginia.
September through January 15, 2010
Teacher Registration
All participating teachers must register by 5 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2010 in order to be included in the Virginia Poetry Out Loud Competition.
Poetry Out Loud materials mailed to participating teachers.
School Coordinator selected and registered.
All schools wishing to advance to the regional and state contest must select a School Coordinator.
School Poetry Out Loud Coordinators make arrangements for School Level competition.
October 2009 – January, 2010
Classroom preparations and competitions.
Classroom Level Winners determined by date set by School Coordinator.
First place Classroom Level Winner information sheet due to School Coordinator.

February 1 through 22, 2010
Regional Contests
Friday, February 26, 2010 Regional Winners Registered
- Regional Level First, Second, Third Place Winners and alternate determined and registered by this date.
- Regional Winners’ information must be registered with the State Coordinator by 5 p. m.
- Three Regional Winners from 7 regions will travel to Richmond to compete in the State Poetry Out Loud Semifinals and Finals.

The 2010 Virginia Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest is a partnership of the National Endowment of the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and Theatre IV and Barksdale Theatre.
